Dr. Jing's research centers on the molecular mechanisms of neuron-glia interactions, with works towards understanding how glial cells support brain function. She identified Dmp1-positive astrocytes as a specialized cerebrovascular-associated subtype and demonstrated that glycosylation of DMP1 is critical for blood-brain barrier integrity by regulating the sealing of blood-brain barrier. Building on this, she further deciphered neuronal control over oligodendrocyte development, revealing that disruption of neuronal RHEB signaling impairs oligodendrocyte differentiation and myelination through the mTORC1-DLK1 axis, with establishment the essential role of the imprinted gene Dlk1 in myelination. Currently, she is extending this work by modeling Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and dissecting neuron-oligodendrocyte crosstalk in health and disease.
